You’ve been asked to manage your Local’s Facebook account. Now what? You’ve never managed a professional account before. What do you post? How do you get more followers? What’s the best way to deal with trolls and bots? Page or group? This course assumes a working knowledge of the Facebook platform. It’s recommended (but not required) that you bring a laptop.
Chaos, Confusion and Conspiracy Theories — Alberta under Jason Kenney
David Climenhaga and Dave Cournoyer, United Nurses of Alberta
Jason Kenney’s United Conservative Party decisively defeated the Alberta NDP government led by Rachel Notley on April 16, 2019. Since then, Albertans have been presented with a smorgasbord of chaos (intentional), confusion (possibly unintentional) and conspiracy theories (mostly ridiculous) as the UCP pulls out all the stops to implement Kenney’s radical neoliberal and social conservative agendas.
If recent polling is to be believed, a lot of Albertans seem to have gone from loving Kenney to suffering from a severe case of buyers’ remorse. And despite many rumours to the contrary, Notley seems determined to hang in and fight another election campaign against the UCP. But don’t count Kenney out — anyone who has been paying attention understands the man is an all-star campaigner.
Alberta’s two leading political bloggers — Dave Cournoyer, author of the Daveberta.ca blog and David Climenhaga, author of AlbertaPolitics.ca — take a look at what happened during the first year of the Kenney Era in Alberta provincial politics and make some predictions about what will likely happen during the three years that remain in the UCP’s mandate.
The presentation will include a Who’s Who of Kenney’s Cabinet and Caucus, with a frank assessment of who’s smart and who’s not, plus a summary of the major policies implemented by the UCP and likely to be implemented next. In the event Kenney decides to chase another job, Cournoyer and Climenhaga will assess the likely candidates to replace him, and their chances of success.
