Advanced Communicators Day
Making Union Action Look Sexy
In this workshop, Abdul Malik will go over the ins and outs of covering action, events, pickets, moving on the fly, and how best to use your equipment over a number of difficult shooting scenarios. Much of this will be framed around how to create powerful, dynamic images that bolster your action from a communications perspective while being extraordinary morale boosters for your membership. This workshop will include, the best setting for a number of environments, reading light, getting powerful candids, staging photographs to make them look natural and environmental and worksite portraiture. Bring a camera if you have one, or a smartphone if you don’t!
There is an extra charge and registration process to attend the Advanced Communicators’ Day. This event starts in the morning of Thursday June 6. To register for the Advanced Communicators Day (Thursday, June 8 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM), please email editor(at)calm.ca with your name and union. We will invoice you the extra fee of $200 +HST ($226.00).

Abdul Malik
Abdul Malik is an award-winning photojournalist and filmmaker from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, currently residing in Edmonton, Alberta. His work has appeared nationwide, and internationally, both online and in print. He approaches his work from a strong ethical standpoint and has been embedded with striking workers in Canada's North, to newcomers in Edmonton, and everything in between. He's currently working on several photo and video projects to be completed this year and is a co-founder of the anti-racism nonprofit, #HateFreeYEG
