Are you a skilled communications generalist interested in working for a progressive health care union with a large and diverse membership, and a broad social justice mandate?
The Hospital Employees’ Union is looking for an experienced individual to fill the position of Communications Officer at its provincial office in Burnaby, British Columbia on a temporary basis for a 12 month term, with possibility of extension.
HEU operates in a complex sector with many challenges. As an integral member of a mid-sized communications team, you will work in a collaborative environment, with responsibility for planning and implementing internal and external communications strategies.
In addition, you will be supporting local and provincial campaigns on a range of workplace and societal issues, including collective bargaining.
You will have a strong commitment to progressive social change and will be comfortable with campaign planning, media relations and coaching, and writing for print and on-line publication, social media and ad production.
Post-secondary education in journalism or communications and considerable experience in public relations or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Excellent written and oral communications skills, and a demonstrated ability to provide accurate work under tight deadlines. Basic photography skills are also an asset.
Experience overseeing the production of print- and web-based publications, video and other communications content is a definite asset in this job, as is a proven record of working with designers and other creative professionals.
An understanding of the labour movement and issues impacting the health care sector would be important assets for this position.
