Communications Officer - PEA

Term Position (3 years)

We’re looking to expand our organization by hiring a Communications Officer. The position is a three-year term position, with the possibility of extension.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

You are a communications generalist comfortable with both strategic communications and tactical execution. You’re able to put together a social media content calendar and develop enticing social posts. As a writer, you understand how to tailor your prose for a variety of audiences and vehicles. You are a competent graphic designer. When you write email copy, you focus on improving open rates, and you thrive on A/B testing subject lines. You can see a project from conception to completion. As a leader, you can coach staff and stakeholders in communication best practices. You are a positive and enthusiastic team player who can work independently with minimal direction.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in communications, journalism, or marketing.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience, preferably in a labour, non-profit or social justice environment.
  • Working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, Drupal and the Microsoft Office suite.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of NationBuilder.
  • Experience in advocacy and/or public awareness campaign development.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Salary is $6,657 per month plus 5% in lieu of overtime, and you will have access to a pension plan and comprehensive benefits. The successful candidate will become a member of the BC Union Workers’ Union (BCUWU).

This position reports to the Senior Communications and Member Development Officer and works out of our Victoria office with travel several times a year within British Columbia. We support our staff with professional development and career growth opportunities.
