Position Overview

  • Assist the Director of Government Relations and Political Action in performing project management activities.
  • Coordinating project priorities across multiple tracks on a project and driving the project.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate meetings and weekly status reporting and other team meetings.
  • Following established standards and procedures for project reporting and documentation.
  • Drive a focus on consistent communication and project standards internally within the project team and externally with internal and external audiences.
  • Act as a point of contact for all project administrative tasks for the assigned project.
  • Utilize MS Office tools including Teams, Project, and Excel to track budgets, schedules, and other information.
  • Setup and manage processes for contract management, financial management, scope management and other elements of the project management processes.
  • Oversee progress to make sure goals are met on time.
  • Create and manage project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks per the schedule.
  • Coordination of, and response to, requests for changes from the original specifications.
  • Building and maintaining positive working relationship with all external/internal stakeholders.

The Project Coordinator will report to the Director of Government Relations and Political Action and work under the direction of the President and with members of the AFL’s executive staff to help achieve the organization’s strategic objectives. They will also be called upon to interact and cooperate with the AFL’s affiliate unions and advocacy partners.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience in the Labour field
  • A passion for workers’ rights and knowledge of issues faced by workers in the energy transition.
  • Strong Project Management skills; including organizing, planning, and managing large-scale projects.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, and project management skills, including an ability to communicate effectively at an executive level.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work and trade-offs against critical timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to set agendas and facilitate meetings while focusing on critical path discussion topics and necessary decisions.
  • Ability to work in a virtual team.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.

Compensation and Benefits

This position is a member of Unifor 445. A competitive salary and benefits are attached pursuant to the collective agreement.
