An established not-for-profit organization focused on climate change is accepting applications for the role of Communications Officer, Canada Climate Renovations (part-time.)

About the role:
We are looking for a Communications Associate with experience working in the design and execution of highly impactful communications campaigns. This role centres on developing a new climate communications campaign from the ground up, under the guidance of senior team members. The role involves building connections with key stakeholders, managing project timelines, coordinating meetings, ensuring projects stays on budget, developing and executing effective communications tactics, and monitoring and reporting on impact.

The ideal candidate knows their way around strategic communications and project management, enjoys collaborations and partnerships, thrives when trying new approaches, is open to feedback, takes initiative, is solutions-oriented and can successfully connect with stakeholders and peers across multiple time zones.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and executing of an engaging and educational climate communications campaign related to building sector decarbonization;
  • Identify and develop relationships with key stakeholders and facilitate joint initiatives to bolster the campaign;
  • Create engaging project materials such as presentations, educational documents, press releases, blogs, opeds and social media content;
  • Devise and implement digital and earned media strategies to amplify the campaign;
  • Make full use of digital tools to disseminate targeted messaging;
  • With support, manage the development of an educational website related to the campaign;
  • With support, track budget spends, and manage contracts with vendors and partners;
  • Compile credible, concise briefings, project updates and progress reports for the team and partners working on the energy transition in Canada;
  • As needed, act as a resource for key stakeholders on best practices in communications;
  • As needed, support other projects of the team at critical moments.

Key competencies:

  • A genuine interest in climate change and passion for helping Canada build a thriving low-carbon economy;
  • Professional experience as a campaigner, project manager, campaign coordinator, or communications associate with experience coordinating or managing a communications or educational campaign;
  • Experienced in project management, including an ability to use and/or devise systems to track a multi-faceted project to ensure work is delivered on time and on budget. Identify and escalate key risks and roadblocks to find adequate solutions;
  • Knowledge of best practices in campaign communications;
  • Experienced in: designing and executing impactful communications or educational campaigns; producing engaging and impactful communications materials; translating complex topics into easy-to-understand materials;
  • Experience in digital analytics, and reporting; Experience managing websites, uploading content, monitoring visitor engagement and finding creative solutions for growing visitor numbers and engagement;
  • Experienced placing and managing advertising across a range of platforms;
  • Proven problem-solving, organizational and time management skills;
  • A team player and a natural collaborator, who enjoys working independently;
  • The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across phone/video conferencing, time zones, Slack, email, etc.;
  • A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change;
  • A passion to create change.

Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following skills

  •  Knowledge of Canadian climate issues and debates;
  • Familiarity with/experience in/ passion for residential renovations/home design sector.

Location: Candidates must be located in Canada and have the right to work in Canada. Location within Canada is flexible. There may be occasional work in the evenings or early mornings due to time zones.
