Yukon Government

The Classification unit of the Public Service Commission is seeking qualified individuals to serve as Chair of Yukon Government’s Classification Appeal Board.

As the Chair of the Classification Appeal Board, you will hear and decide on disputes between the employer (represented by Yukon government Classification unit staff) and appellants (Yukon government employees, in most cases represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada) concerning the classification level of positions.

The Yukon government uses a point factor rating plan to classify most of its jobs. It assesses the knowledge, skills, mental demands, accountability and working conditions that are required of a job. This assessment results in a classification level which in turn determines the applicable salary range.

Interested individuals must have knowledge of administrative law and the principles of natural justice, as well as experience either participating in, or conducting arbitration hearings. Preferably in a Canadian northern context. Training will be provided on the classification plan and the legislative framework for classification appeals to selected individuals.

In addition to providing your credentials as they relate to the above, please also provide copies of 2 or 3 decisions or similar documents that you have written and disclose any conflict or perception of conflict regarding this position. Alternatively, if you have other qualifications and experience that would make you a good fit for this role please submit your particulars for our consideration.

The Yukon government is a diverse organization delivering high quality services to more than 40,000 residents. We are committed to equity and diversity in all aspects of our organization. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to consider responding to this expression of interest.
