Job Board Posting Policy
Adopted on Feb. 27, 2026
Policy regarding the CALM Job Board
Given that several employment standards regulations in Canada require that job posting services have policies to ensure that the jobs are of high quality and not fraudulent, the CALM Board adopts the following policy related to www.calm.ca/jobs.
Background
In 2022, CALM established a job posting service as a benefit of membership in CALM, as there was nowhere that union communicators could go to to find job openings. The CALM Board decided that it would create that space, at http://www.unionjobs.ca (or http://www.calm.ca/jobs). The job board is a highly popular service that posts hundreds of jobs in all parts of Canada per year.
Procedure to post
There are two ways in which a job can be posted. The first is that the job is sent to CALM staff who review the posting and post it. The review process ensures that no job is posted that is fraudulent. Because organizations must be a member of CALM to post for free, there is already an established relationship between the post and CALM, which makes the process to post a job very smooth. If there is an issue with the posting, CALM staff follow up with the relevant point person to fix the posting.
The second is that a CALM member posts a job themselves by logging into their CALM account. Only members of CALM are able to log into the CALM website. CALM staff review every posting that is made by individual members and follow up with the person who posted the job if there are any issues or problems with the post as it was posted.
Procedure to report fraudulent posts
CALM will post an email address for people to contact if somehow, a fraudulent job post is posted to the job board. CALM staff will follow up with the person who posted the posting to request that it be changed. If it cannot be changed sufficiently, it will be removed.
Any organization that tries to post fraudulent jobs will be blocked from posting at the CALM job board.
Public disclosure
This policy will be posted to the job posting page to be easily accessible by anyone who is interested in reading it.
Job posting best practices
CALM staff encourage all unions who post jobs to the CALM job board to abide by new regulations enacted by the Province of Ontario. These regulations encourage high-quality job posting and more transparency within the hiring process. These regulations are as follows:
Employers are required to include the following information in a publicly advertised job posting:
- information about the expected compensation or range of compensation for the position
- a statement disclosing the employer’s use, if any, of artificial intelligence to screen, assess or select applicants for the position
- a statement disclosing whether a vacancy exists or not
Employers are prohibited from including in a publicly advertised job posting, or in any associated application form, any requirements related to Canadian experience.
If an employer interviews an applicant for a publicly advertised job posting, they are required to tell that applicant, within a specified time frame, whether a hiring decision has been made for that posting.
If an employer uses a third party to advertise a publicly advertised job posting or advertises the posting on a third-party website (for example, a job bank), the employer is responsible for ensuring the requirements are followed.
These rules generally apply to publicly advertised job postings that are posted on or after January 1, 2026. The requirement to provide information to an applicant interviewed for a position applies if the interview took place on or after January 1, 2026, even if the publicly advertised job posting was posted before January 1, 2026.
