human rights, and making Alberta a better place to live, work and play.

Overview
The AFL is a mission-driven organization focused on supporting workers and advancing the
labour movement. We’re looking for a creative, adaptable and team-focused New Media
Departmental staff member to join our Communications team. You will report directly to a
Director of the AFL. This role is hands-on and requires strong digital content skills, social
media savvy, and a passion for helping us grow our online organizing efforts.

What You’ll Do:
Attend AFL and affiliates’ events to capture digital content and support
dissemination.
Create, design, write, and edit compelling digital content across AFL’s social media
platforms, including TikTok, as well as the personal channels of the elected officers.
This content can include blogs, social captions, graphics, photos, and videos.
Curate, schedule, publish and monitor digital content that reflects AFL’s brand and
digital strategy.
Interact with followers by responding to comments and representing AFL’s voice
with professionalism and care.
Collaborate closely with the AFL communications team to assist with online
organizing, outreach and producing new media content (podcast, video, social
media, etc.).
Assist with social media livestreams and digital events, ensuring smooth, real-time
engagement.
Contribute to the development and upkeep of the AFL’s communication plans,
social media policies, brand standards and style guides.
Help implement digital marketing campaigns alongside AFL teams.
Generate weekly and monthly social media analytics reports and adjust strategies
accordingly.
Maintain AFL’s digital asset management system and provide high-quality photo
and video content from AFL events.
Embrace feedback and work as a flexible team player committed to upholding and
promoting AFL’s brand and mission.

What We’re Looking For:
Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, digital media or related
fields preferred.
Proven experience creating and managing digital content for social media.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills tailored for digital audiences.
Proficiency with social media management and analytics platforms.
Basic graphic design, photography, and video editing skills.
Ability to work well in diverse teams and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Commitment to the values and goals of the labour movement.
Openness to feedback and continuous improvement.
Experience or interest in digital organizing and community engagement is an asset.

Preferred Experience:
Previous experience in digital marketing or labour movement organizing is an asset.
Familiarity with the AFL’s mission, values and key events is a plus.

Work Conditions:
This position is based at the AFL office in Edmonton.
Some evening and weekend work may be required to support event schedules.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary and benefits are provided according to the Unifor 445 collective agreement.
