Overview
We’re looking for an Office Assistant to support daily office operations and help keep our
organization running smoothly and efficiently. This role requires independent judgment and
a strong knowledge of office procedures. The position may be full-time or part-time, based
on the AFL’s needs.
This role requires working onsite at the AFL office from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30
PM. Remote work is not available, though part-time schedules can be negotiated.
This position reports directly to the Secretary Treasurer.

What You’ll Do:
Answer telephone and in-person inquiries or direct them to the appropriate team
member.
Open, sort, and distribute incoming mail.
Manage office supplies and photocopying needs.
Handle computer backups, arrange couriers, and prepare materials for events.
Organize meeting rooms, travel arrangements, and accommodations as needed.
Maintain electronic calendars and initiate correspondence.
Type and format correspondence, news releases, speeches, reports, and other
documents.
Assist in coordinating events such as conventions, seminars, and educational
forums.
Maintain filing systems, databases, and update AFL websites.
Write procedures related to your duties and organize library resources.
Cross-train and provide temporary coverage for other bargaining unit positions.
Organize and maintain office spaces, including tidying, sorting storage closets, and
managing supplies.
Oversee office improvement projects, including coordinating painters, cleaners, and
furniture removal services.
Perform other duties as required to support office operations.

Preferred Education and Experience:
High School diploma required.
Supplemented by recognized post-secondary courses in business and/or
administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in a union environment and knowledge of the labour movement is an
asset.

Compensation and Benefits:
A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered according to the COPE
397 collective agreement.
