Bilingual Campaign and Mobilization Officer

 The AJC is currently seeking a Bilingual Campaign and Mobilization Officer who is interested in working in a dynamic, small team setting that promotes the value and worth of federal public service lawyers and seeks to improve their working conditions.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Director of Advocacy & Bargaining, the Campaign & Mobilization Officer will provide support to all AJC mobilization initiatives, actions, and campaigns. The mandate of the position is to support the development and implementation of campaign strategies, mobilize members on issues impacting their working lives and to develop leadership capacity amongst AJC members. The Campaign & Mobilization Officer helps to drive the vision and goals of all AJC campaigns.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and participate in AJC member outreach, recruitment, organizing and mobilizing efforts in order to move members to build power and take action on key issues impacting members’ working lives
  • Support development and ongoing engagement of AJC’s steward network, and collaborate with AJC stewards to organize meetings, prepare trainings, encourage member participation, and to communicate steward work to the broader membership
  • Carry out a membership mobilization plan aimed at supporting bargaining efforts, at all points in the bargaining cycle (preparation, during including possible job action, post collective agreement negotiation)
  • Build relationships with community organizations, labour allies, and advocacy groups; represent the AJC in coalition campaigns and joint initiatives
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan, implement and monitor member-driven campaigns and membership development initiatives; mobilization- and advocacy-focused communications; and trainings, resources and materials for advocacy campaigns
  • Organize and conduct member orientations and trainings that support the mobilization and network growth and the implementation of advocacy campaigns
  • Provide guidance and advice to members that is consistent with AJC strategic priorities and operational targets
  • Collaborate with staff in conducting research that will inform strategic planning, membership mapping, mobilization, and ongoing work and priorities of the AJC, assigned on an as-needed basis
  • Develop, drive forward and implement, with other staff, the campaign work of the AJC
  • Other related tasks as assigned

Statement of Qualifications

  • Degree in Political Science, Industrial Relations, Communications, Law, or equivalent field from a recognized college or university, an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience with campaigns, organizing, advocacy or mobilizing
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in developing and engaging a large network of advocates across a large geographical area
  • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire members to participate in their union
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and presentation skills
  • Bilingualism (French, English – written and verbal) imperative
  • Knowledge of social media management tools and content management platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong cross-team collaboration and consensus building skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong understanding of and commitment to union principles
  • Strong initiative, administration, organizational, planning and time management skills to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • In-depth knowledge of digital tools used in member engagement, organizing, and advocacy campaigns and their effective implementation

COMPENSATION AND OTHER BENEFITS

  1. COMPETITIVE SALARY COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE: $ 92,056 to $132,472 with Bilingual Bonus of $1200.00 (Union COPE Local 225)
  2. GROUP BENEFITS: Health, Dental, Life, Disability
  3. PENSION PLAN: CAAT
  4. VACATION: 4 weeks/year to start in addition to December holiday season and other paid leav
  5. JOB TERM: Indeterminate Full-time (35 hours per week)
  6. Hybrid position with, in person days required at the AJC Ottawa office. 

START DATE: As soon as possible.
